The use of plastic gears is growing in many applications. Developing a quick and easy preliminary design can save a gear manufacturer time and money. Through the joint cooperation of Ticona, UFE and UTS, Internet-based software was developed for preliminary sizing of plastic gears.
This interactive tool provides preliminary gear specifications, load analysis, safety factors, and material options to initiate the development process. By inputting design and load parameters for spur or helical gears, (including numbers of teeth, ratio, pitch, face width, center distance, power, torque, and tangential load, etc.), gear designers can vary their gear design to suit an application and immediately see the relative effect as indicated by safety factors.
